L'Oréal, the
leading international cosmetics group, has endorsed the D-Count®
system, an innovative technology for sensitive and rapid microbiology
testing from Chemunex, as an official internal method for testing
products before shipment, Chemunex announced today.
D-Count
allows the monitoring of product bacteriological quality to a
very high standard by delivering a sensitivity around 1000-fold
superior to the quality level currently accepted by the industry.
Already, two L'Oréal manufacturing sites are using D-Count
for routine operation within their quality control laboratories.
D-Count,
based on the cell labelling and digital data processing technology
already proven on the successful ChemScan RDI, is part
of Chemunex's portfolio of rapid, ultra-sensitive microbiology
testing products. Combining speed with full automation, D-Count
delivers quantitative and sensitive microbiology results to manufacturers
of cosmetic and personal care products, as well as food and beverages.
Before making
this official internal recommendation, L'Oréal performed more
than 10,000 tests on its wide range of leading cosmetics products
using D-Count. The data obtained during the initial evaluation
and subsequent validation period confirmed D-Count as a
suitable, sensitive, fast and robust product release test for
reliable confirmation of microbiological quality.
"L'Oréal chose
D-Count because of its ability to provide highly sensitive
results 48 hours faster than traditional testing methods," said
the Technical Management of microbial methods at L'Oréal. "This
allows better monitoring of the entire manufacturing process as
well as providing a guarantee that L'Oréal consistently ships
products of the highest standard to its customers. Microbiological
testing is a vital part of this quality control process."
In addition
to assuring the quality of l'Oréal's products, D-Count
also allows substantial reduction of inventories by cutting time
to result through the implementation of the fast D-Count
test. This enables both faster inventory turnover and new opportunities
to improve quality control through real time monitoring of the
production process.
"Chemunex
is delighted with this official endorsement after the extensive
validation performed by l'Oréal. We are proud to be a supplier
to the world's leading cosmetic company," said Louis Foissac,
CEO of Chemunex.
